Bethune's at Webbs, in New Market, Auckland (New Zealand) will be auctioning the Tom Mackie Collection of Comics, on Sunday, 24 october 2010 (5.oopm onwards). This auction will be of particular interest to collectors of Australian comics, as it features an incredible selection of Australian science-fiction comics from the 1930s-1950s.Tom Mackie grew up in New Zealand during the 1940s, where he developed a lifelong fascination for science-fiction comics, particularly the American comic strips, Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. Mackie's collection spans nearly 80 years of comic art history, and includes original artwork from US newspaper comic strips, many rare Australian comics from the 1930s-1950s, Big Little Books, US comics from the 1970s and 1980s - and a selection of exquisite Buck Rogers toys from the 1930s.
Collections like these are as rare as they are impressive, so there is bound to be considerable interest in this auction amongst science-fiction fans, comic book collectors and pulp culture aficionados.
